I have been an amateur DJ since I was young, playing around with different sound equipment and running sound for various local events or troubleshooting. During my time at The University of Pittsburgh, I started first exploring all the possibilities, DJing my first real parties and events as well as remixing and creating mashups of popular songs. I have worked with many well known South Asian DJs such as Dr. Srimix, Klasikhz, and DJ MG. I have also DJed live for Bollywood National Dance Championships, Bollywood America. My music is regularly featured in various mixtapes and albums, most recently/notably Legends Album 2019.
I believe actions speak louder than words, as do pictures. So instead of explaining, here are two gifs to show the planes I enjoy building and testing. The max flight time so far achieved is approximately 7 minutes.
Freshman year, I noticed a lack of community for the pre-healthcare community. While there were groups that existed on campus for medical students or dental students, there was no group to connect and help students explore and learn from each other in the health sciences. In addition, especially among pre-medical students, competition was rampant, which contributed to a negative environment for an already stressful field. This is why I co-founded HOSA at Pitt with a friend of mine. HOSA allowed students to compete with each other in a healthy way and also explore other health fields simultaneously. During my time in leadership, I competed and placed at the state and international level each year myself, as well as started a local conference for students to get a glimpse into the conferences before they happened. I led boards of about ten other dedicated individuals, and also often presented and collaborated with other organizations in running events.
I am a religious individual, and Hinduism is a religion that I have enjoyed exploring and discussing often. So it was natural that I join the Hindu community at Pitt, and right away I contributed to board meetings in an informational way for the doctrine as well as the logistics and execution of events. Each year, I was involved with planning four of the biggest cultural events on campus, with more than 500 attendees.
I always enjoyed sports growing up, but one that I ended up gravitating towards due to weather restrictions in the northeast was table tennis. I joined the table tennis club at Pitt, and when I became president, decided that Pitt should join the National Collegiate Table Tennis Association and compete against other schools. We traveled across the state and country to participate in tournaments, and I also hosted several tournaments for the entire school community.
As a big fan of music, I joined the school radio station to host a weekly show where I played lots of cultural music. My show was the first on the station to have South Asian music, and it also had a diverse audience beyond Pittsburgh. I started off just playing South Asian music, but evolving the show to have a mix and play music but also raise awareness for the South Asian community. on the show, I invited speakers, discussed controversial topics, and highlighted new and upcoming South Asian artists, along with much more.
ASA was the biggest cultural organization on campus, and as business manager I made sure all the finances of the organization were properly taken care of. I also helped plan with umbrella organization business managers, to train and maintain our accounts for the year. As business manager, I also was in charge of the logistics of all the events we coordinated. I coordinated several speakers and groups for their events at Pitt such as Cassey Ho (Blogilates), Ramya Ramana, Jenny Yang (Buzzfeed), and more.
As a member of RSA E-board, I coordinated town halls for all the residence halls on campus, and helped address advocacy and logistical issues with the organization with the president. I worked closely with the president and board to implement new initiatives for improving visibility and awareness of diversity, as well as to save the environment.
